President Muhammadu Buhari has assured leaders of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that he would leave Nigeria better than he met it in 2015.
Mr Buhari said this on Friday when he met CAN leaders led by their president, Samson Ayokunle, at the State House in Abuja.
The President affirmed that his administration would continue to address important national challenges, including security, economy and corruption.
He said: “We will continue to strive for peaceful co-existence among all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
‘‘In the area of allocation of political offices, our focus will be on merit and national spread, such that every part of Nigeria will have a sense of belonging.
‘‘We remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, and efforts to bring back all those in captivity and other victims of kidnappings will be intensified.’’
Reverend Ayokunle congratulated Buhari on his re-election and prayed God to grant him ‘‘everything it takes to perform a hundred times better than his first term.’’
The group also pleaded for inclusive government, including ethnic and religious balance in the selection of leaders of the ninth National Assembly.
They also tasked the president not to relent in his efforts to free Leah Sharibu and other Nigerians in Boko Haram captivity.
