Musician Banky W has said that he would support the push for the establishment of state police if voted into office.
Banky W officially known as Oluwabankole Wellington made this promise in a chat with Premium Times on Monday.
“I think that Nigeria is too big of a country to be policed effectively on federal basis.
“I think that there are so many issues that are going on in our communities now that I think states should have the ability to run their own police forces,” Banky W said.
The 37-year-old believes that the Nigeria Police Force is largely underfunded.
He added that reforms are needed to stamp out the bad eggs in the Force.
The singer and actor is contesting to represent Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State at the National Assembly.
He is running under the platform of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP).
MDP was founded by 27-year-old youth activist and entrepreneur Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi in 2017.
Mr Olateru-Olagbegi is married to musician, Mo’Cheddah.
