She made the declaration Tuesday in Ondo during a campaign rally for her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, who is contesting in Saturday’s presidential election.
After telling her audience that she is a daughter and a fan of former First Lady, late Maryam Babangida, Mrs Jonathan then advised Ondo youths to pursue their education, stressing that if she wasn’t educated, she would not be a first lady.
Hear her: “Majority of the people of Ondo are educated and I believe you know the importance of education because without education there is no future. We should thank God for the administration of Goodluck and PDP. If somebody is talking and you are not educated, can you be there? If Hilary Clinton is talking and you are not educated, can you be there? As (Ondo Governor, Segun) Mimiko is there, without education can he be there? As I am standing before you, if I am not educated, will they choose me?”
According to a biography published on Wikipedia, Mrs Jonathan earned her school certificate in 1976, and passed the West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) in 1980. In 1989, she obtained the National Certificate of Education (NCE) in Mathematics and Biology from the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Port Harcourt. She then proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt and studied for a B.Ed in Biology and Psychology.
