Controversial media personality Kemi Olunloyo has rejected public condolences following the death of her father, former Oyo State governor and acclaimed mathematician, Omololu Olunloyo.
The 60-year-old, who has been estranged from her family for years, made her position clear in a series of emotional posts on Facebook and TikTok after the elder statesman died on Sunday, April 6.
“I am NOT part of the Olunloyo family anymore, and told you that in 2024, that I will never return to Nigeria even if my parents died,” she wrote.
“I am not accepting anybody’s condolences because I am not condoling with anybody. If you want to condole with my father on his death or his family, you need to go to Facebook.com/omololuolunloyo,” she added in a video post.
Kemi, a former journalist, accused her father of living a double life—one as a respected public figure and another as a man who damaged his own family.
“My father, Victor Omololu Olunloyo is two different people. He was one person to the world; he was another person to the family.
My father tortured us as kids. He tortured us emotionally and physically. My father ruined the family unit.”
She claimed that while her father projected her as his “favourite child” in public, the reality was far from that.
“My father marketed me as his favourite daughter… but I was far from being his favourite. My father used me for a lot of things… he took advantage of my own positive energies,” she said.
In a shocking revelation, Kemi alleged her father was involved in occultism.
“My father was into ‘juju’ heavily. My father was into occult practices and I called my father out on his 80th birthday. After I called him out, he went to Pastor (EA) Adeboye that he wanted to become born-again — and he did.”
She also blamed the family’s spiritual and emotional decline on her father’s second marriage.
According to her, things took a dark turn after he married a woman named Ronke Sonaike—later known as Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo—who had worked on his 1983 gubernatorial campaign.
Kemi recounted the tragic story of her brother, Tayo, who suffered severe brain damage from a student protest incident and remained disabled for over four decades before passing away in 2021.
“They wanted to kill my story but they didn’t. But they killed Tayo; they killed my brother’s child. Tayo would have been a great Mathematician. They ruined his destiny.”
Although Kemi stated she has forgiven her late father, she made it clear she would not be part of the family’s mourning or burial rites.
Her strained relationship with the late Olunloyo was no secret.
In 2022, the ex-governor publicly disowned Kemi during an interview with BBC Yoruba, saying he no longer considered her a daughter due to her persistent attacks on the family. He described her behaviour as “strange and disgraceful,” urging the public not to associate her views with the Olunloyo name.
Victor Omololu Olunloyo, Nigeria’s second republic governor of Oyo State, died at the age of 89.
He was widely respected in academic and political circles, but his daughter’s explosive claims have cast a shadow over the family’s public image.
