Super Eagles skipper, Mikel Obi, has revealed he will carry on with international football despite the country’s elimination from Russia.
Mikel, 31, is currently Nigeria’s oldest and most-capped player with 85 caps.
Yet, the Tianjin TEDA star has stated he has no intention to quit playing for his country.
“I hope I can still be around. This team is a fantastic team,” Mikel said.
“I have enjoyed my time in the national team; in all my years with the Eagles, I have never been in a team like this; honestly, this set of players are amazing and always nice to be around with.
“For the Nations Cup, we will see what happens. I just want to take every year as it comes, then maybe anything can happen from there, but for now, nothing decided,” Mikel said.
The former Chelsea star further praised Coach Gernot Rohr for his fantastic work since he joined the team two years ago.
“The coach has been great since he came in; we have worked collectively as a team and the team has improved tremendously.
“We have a team that wants to improve and this is good for Nigerian football,” Mikel concluded.
Having crashed out of the world cup in controversial circumstances, the Super Eagles will now turn their attention to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a date against Seychelles, Libya and South Africa still to come.
