Female presidential aspirant Khadija Okunnu-Lamidi says she is “somehow related” to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu who also wants to be president.
“Yes, we are somehow related,” she said when asked in an interview with BBC Pidgin.
“He’s the national leader of the APC; he has contributed to national politics and I have great respect for him. But that doesn’t change the fact that Nigerians are looking for a young person with vibrancy. Nigerians are looking for a way out of poverty, they want 24 hours electricity supply, good health care and good roads which are what I’m here to provide,” she said.
Mrs. Okunnu-Lamidi is the daughter of Femi Okunnu a former federal commissioner of works and housing and president of Isale-Eko Descendants Union.
Her mother, Arinola Omololu, is a businesswoman of Ago-Owu pedigree.
The 38-year-old said Nigeria needs to include women in the scheme of things to enable the country to experience change which is one of the driving factors in the world.
“Innovation and change are the driving factors of progress in the world these days. The whole world is experiencing change. You can’t do the same thing and expect a different result. The only difference we can add to what we have been doing is to include women,” she said.
Okunnu-Lamidi attended the University of Lagos Staff School and Childville School Yaba for her primary education before proceeding to Atlantic Hall for her secondary education.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Bolton RAK Campus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and a Master’s degree in Strategic Project Management from Heriot-Watt University, Dubai.
She moved back to Lagos to undergo the mandatory NYSC programme, where she taught Physics and Chemistry at a Lagos State government school.
Okunnu-Lamidi worked at the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) for four years before delving into entrepreneurship.
She is married to Adeshola Lamidi, a financial analyst and risk management professional and they are blessed with children.
