Immigration repatriates Zimbabwean bishop participating in Methodist Church leadership election

NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) said on Tuesday that it repatriated a Zimbabwean bishop for allegedly violating immigration laws.

NIS spokesperson DCI KT Udo made this known in a statement on Wednesday, saying the bishop Eben Nhiwatawi was arrested on August 24 in Yola, Adamawa State capital.

“The bishop arrived in the country on 21st August 2024, with a Tourist Visa (F5A) meant solely for tourism purposes. However, he was discovered to be participating in Methodist Church leadership election process which is in clear violation of the terms and privileges associated with the Tourist Visa as provided in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024,” said the statement.

The NIS headed by Kemi Nandap noted that it encourages lawful inflow of foreign direct investment and people engaging in business and social activities as key facilitators of economic growth and development, but it would not tolerate any violation of the country’s immigration laws.
