The Imo State House of Assembly has impeached its Speaker Paul Emeziem on allegations of gross misconduct, forgery, abuse of office and high-handedness.
Nineteen lawmakers out of 27 signed the impeachment letter which was read on the floor of the House on Monday.
The incident comes days after six out of 24 lawmakers in Plateau State House of Assembly impeached the speaker Ayuba Abok, plunging the assembly into crisis.
In Imo, the lawmakers immediately elected Kennedy Ibe, who represents Obowo constituency, as the new speaker.
The removal of Emeziem comes one year after Chiji Collins was impeached as speaker.
Collins was removed from office by 19 lawmakers on allegations of financial impropriety, high-handedness and gross misconduct among others.
