Actress and former beauty queen Regina Askia has declared that Akwa Ibom State is trending for the wrong reason following the killing of job seeker Iniobong Umoren.
The 53-year-old Akwa Ibom indigene made the statement in an Instagram post on Monday, pointing out that sexual violence is rising in the state.
“Rest In Peace, beautiful! Akwa Ibom is trending for the wrong reasons. Three sexual violence deaths in as many months? We all must speak out against this. Name and shame perpetuators,” she wrote.
A philosophy graduate of the University of Uyo, Miss Umoren was raped and killed while looking for a job.
Police have arrested a 20-year-old man named Uduak Akpan in connection with the crime.
An ex-Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Regina now practises as a family nurse in the United States of America.
