Kano Pillars FC players injured by armed robbers have been relocated from the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja, Kogi State to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano State for further treatment.
Pillars’ Skipper, Gambo Muhammad, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Saturday.
Muhammad, who on his hospital bed described the incident as “very unfortunate”, thanked God for sparing his life and those of his other colleagues.
He said: “I thank Almighty God for sparing our lives because I was shot from a close range by the robbers.
“No life was lost. It could have been worse.”
The players were travelling from Kano to Owerri in Imo State when they were attacked on the Abuja-Lokoja Road on Thursday March 6.
They were going for the opening fixture of the 2014/15 Nigeria Professional Football League with Heartland FC.
The injured players were Super Eagles’ striker Gambo Muhammad, Otekpa Oneji, Reuben Ogbonnaya, Murtala Adamu and Ubong Ekpai.
