Lead counsel of the Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho has given more information on the arrest of the activist.
In a statement on Tuesday, Yomi Alliyu said Sunday Igboho and his wife Ropo, a German citizen, was arrested by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).
He confirmed that the activist was arrested on Monday night while he tried to catch a flight to Germany with his wife.
The senior advocate described the arrest of his client as shocking and urged the government of Germany, Benin Republic and the international community “to rise up and curb the impunity of the Nigerian Government by refusing any application for extradition of our Client who already has application before the International Criminal Court duly acknowledged”.
The Department of State Services had declared Sunday Igboho wanted after allegedly finding illegal ammunition at his Ibadan residence in the Soka area on July 1, 2021.
About 12 of his aides were arrested during the raid and two killed in a gun duel.
