A choice btw live theatre or motion picture, I'd choose theatre; EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Theatre is where we separate the wheat from the chaff. You've got acting chops? Bring it to the stage. No cuts, no take 2. It is live and direct… instant gratification. Incidentally, my first "paying" job post graduation was a stage play…I was @ajokesilva understudy. It was a horribly experience. The Director, (e je ka fi oruko bo la siri 🙄) was a sadist. Theatre directors tend to be tyrants but this person was on a different level. His modus was to frustrate you to point where you threw in the towel. He would drop big names back then, regalling us with tales of how he "ran them out of theatre in tears." Never one to back down from a challenge, I stayed the course; determined that he would not get the best of me. When it was over, the treatment was so bad and pay so poor; I turned my back on my first love for many many years. Thank God for people like Aunty J, @najitedede, @lalaakindoju and organisations like KIND, who who drew me back in and reminded me of what I was missing and how things could and should be. I've been privileged to be a part of several ground breaking productions and some of my deepest connections are with pple I have shared a stage with…theatre will do that to you. It also instills a different level of professionalism and team work. Every actor should try it…stretch yourself💜 #25YearsInTheGame #ChroniclesOfAWorkingActor #OdeToTheCharactersIvePlayed #LiveTheatre #CelebratingAfricasFinest

Ireti talked about how she landed her first lead the role in Nollywood in a post she shared on Instagram on May 2.

She wrote, “I had been referred to this producer by a senior colleague. I read for a minor part and got the role. A few days prior to shoot, I was called in for a table read. For whatever reason (you call it luck, I call it grace) the girl who had been cast in the lead did not turn up and I was asked to stand-in for her… And that; is how I got cast in my first lead role in a Nollywood film. Name of movie: ‘Dilemma’…”
