Veteran actors Ireti Doyle and Femi Jacobs are set to feature in Showmax original drama series, Princess on a Hill.
The series, which is scheduled to premiere in November, is a collaboration between acclaimed filmmakers Tolu Ajayi and Abiola, promising a captivating exploration of power, ambition, and the personal sacrifices that come with success.
Princess on a Hill centers on Zara, a young woman whose life takes a dramatic turn after she wins the Lawson Group’s Leading Ladies reality show.
As she steps into the fiercely competitive world of business, Zara finds herself clashing with Moyosore Lawson, the company’s CEO, who is determined to see her fail.
Ajayi describes the series as a unique blend of modern African settings and mythical themes, drawing parallels between business boardrooms and ancient kingdoms.
The story introduces viewers to characters reminiscent of a fantastical narrative, including a wounded king, loyal knights, and a warrior princess.
“There is a dreamlike quality we aim to convey in this modern African retelling of a universal myth,” Ajayi explains.
“Business boardrooms as kingdoms, the wounded cruel king, strutting knights, conniving bishops, treacherous duchesses, the village belle turned warrior princess, and occasionally, a touch of the village jester; all the familiar elements of a mythic tale are present.”
The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Efa Iwara, Andrew Bunting, Mimi Chaka, and Norbert Young alongside Ireti and Femi.
Princess on a Hill is produced by Chuka Ejorh and Shayo Oke-Sobo, with the screenplay penned by Bibi Ukpo.
Tolu Ajayi, who made his film debut with Over The Bridge—a film that premiered at the New York African Film Festival (NYAFF) and led this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) with 12 nominations—brings his directorial expertise to this project.
Sobo, known for his work as the director of the TV series Inspector K and as the creative director at Suss Productions, also lends his creative vision to the series.
