Popular Kwara Islamic cleric Sheikh Abdulganiy Aboto has been buried in Ilorin.
The burial took place on Sunday morning amid heavy rainfall.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other eminent personalities attended the Janaza prayer held in the Omoda area of Ilorin.
Aboto, a member of the Ansarul-Islam family, and two of his aides died in an auto crash caused by a downpour between Thursday night and Friday morning.
In a statement issued by his spokesman Rafiu Ajakaye on Saturday, Governor AbdulRazaq said he received the news of Aboto’s death with shock and sadness.
“This, indeed, is one sad news too many. The death of Sheikh Abdulganiy Aboto is a huge loss for the Muslim community and to Ilorin as a whole.
”He was known for his vast knowledge and great efforts in the propagation of Islamic message in the simplest form possible for his audience.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the families of the late Sheikh and the others, and the entire Adabiyyah family worldwide,” the governor said.
Emir of Ilorin and chairman of Kwara Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari also expressed sadness over Aboto’s death.
The emir described it as a huge loss in the Ilorin emirate and beyond.
“During his lifetime, late Sheikh Aboto touched so many lives through his public lectures during Ramadan, as well as other communities across Nigeria and African continent by extension,” the emir said in a condolence message issued by his spokesman Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona.
