An Islamic cleric has said that first lady Remi Tinubu should be killed because she is a Christian.
Mrs Tinubu is an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) while her husband President Bola Tinubu is a Muslim.
In a viral video, the cleric is heard saying the Muslim/Muslim ticket that brought Tinubu to power was a scam.
Tinubu’s selection of a Muslim Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate at the presidential poll last year raised dust. But Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) said there was no cause for alarm.
The cleric, whose identity could not be immediately confirmed, said in Hausa that the wife of the president, “being an infidel should be put to death as provided for in the Quran”.
He, however, did not provide any chapter or verse of the Quran to support his claim.
“Now, Tinubu, his wife is an infidel. As an infidel, she is a leader among the infidels.
“God’s judgement says she must be killed. She’s a pastor…a leader of infidels (Christians); Allah says they must be killed…,” he said.
The video has raised concerns among netizens.
Several persons on X have also called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to identify and arrest the cleric.
