Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso will be laid to rest on Tuesday in Ogun state.
The Solatul Janazah (prayer for the dead) was held in Ojota, Lagos State.
Final prayer and burial will take place in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State, on Tuesday at noon.
This was announced during a live broadcast on TikTok and later confirmed by YAYI TV, a Islamic media channel, through a Facebook post.
The post read: “Alh. Rukayat Gawat is no more. May Allah be pleased with her – Amin. Her funeral (Janazah prayer) will take place in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State today at noon. May Allah be pleased with her soul.”
News of her passing was first shared by Ilorin-based cleric, Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh, on Facebook.
He expressed his condolences, saying, “Our sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great loss. May Allah forgive her shortcomings. RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!”
Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on new media to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and a relative of the late singer, confirmed her passing with a tweet quoting Quran 2:156.
“Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
Fuji musician Saheed Osupa also paid tribute to her, sharing a photo of her on Instagram.
He captioned it: “Rest in Power, my beloved sister @iamrukayatgawat.”
Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso had a significant influence on the Islamic music scene.
Though the cause of her death has not yet been disclosed, her legacy in Islamic music and the deep connection she had with her audience remains irreplaceable.
She is survived by her husband, Alhaji Shakiru Oyefeso.
