Actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has opened up about the toll online criticism has taken on his wife, Toyosi Etim-Effiong and his efforts to support her individuality.
Speaking on Toyosi’s YouTube channel during a heartfelt discussion, Daniel revealed his struggle with seeing his wife face backlash for her outspoken nature, especially when she shares insights about their marriage online.
“From the first day I met you, I’ve known you to be very bold and outspoken about your beliefs,” Daniel told Toyosi, admitting that while her expressive nature initially unsettled him, he has grown to love and appreciate it.
The Man of God actor said he feels hurt when people criticise Toyosi for being herself.
“When I see people come at you for just being you, it hurts me. They’re throwing stones at someone who is just expressing herself because of who she is,” he lamented.
Daniel added that while Toyosi often shrugs off negativity, he remains concerned about its impact on her.
“Sometimes I worry if it gets to you, even though you say it doesn’t, and I want them to back off and let you be yourself,” he said.
The couple, who tied the knot on November 4, 2017, met in August 2016 while working on a project.
They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in January 2019.
