Isaac Fayose, younger brother of the former governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose, has criticised social media personality Martins Otse aka VeryDarkMan over his joke about money missing from his non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The Martins Vincent Otse Initiative was launched in October, with the goal of addressing Nigeria’s educational challenges.
The NGO received significant donations including N100 million from music producer Don Jazzy.
However, in a video posted on Instagram last Friday, VeryDarkMan claimed his NGO’s account was hacked, resulting in the theft of over N180 million.
He claimed a suspect was arrested and the account frozen to prevent further breaches.
He also mentioned that he was heading to Jos to recover the stolen funds.
Police in the FCT and Plateau denied knowledge of the case.
On Monday, VeryDarkMan clarified it was only a prank and that he wanted to see how people would feel about it.
Reacting to his statement in an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Fayose said the prank was distasteful.
“My very dear brother, you don’t prank people with people’s money. You can prank with your own money. What you did, if it were to be abroad where NGO is properly regulated, they would have sanctioned you and asked you to step aside because of lack of confidence,” he said.
“This money has stayed too long in your account. When are you going to start work?”
