I’ve lost deals because of my past, Nkechi Blessing apologises for controversies

Actress Nkechi Blessing has publicly apologised for her past online controversies, admitting they have cost her valuable opportunities, including business deals and endorsements.

In a video shared on Instagram on Thursday, the 36-year-old acknowledged that her past behavior, particularly online conflicts, has affected how people perceive her.

“Before whatever relationship I had that went viral online, I’ve had several relationships with people that didn’t even make it online. Just one became a headline, and now people categorize me based on that,” she said.

The actress explained that while she never deliberately sought social media drama, she often defended herself when former partners attempted to tarnish her image.

“I am not blaming anybody because this is my doing, na me cause am. But whatever relationship that came online and became a topic wasn’t because I wanted it to be like that. It ended months before the outburst, meaning I had already moved on, but the other party needed it to go public to feel good about himself. I only tried to defend myself because the internet never forgets,” she stated.

According to Nkechi, this reputation has made people hesitant to work with her.

“Imagine someone wants to work with me and they seek a third-party opinion, and they hear things like, ‘Ah! That controversial girl! She’s not somebody you can work with.’”

She pleaded for the opportunity to be judged by her current actions rather than past mistakes.

“I can no longer take it. It is enough. I know I made all of you see me like that, but that is not who I am. Allow me to have friends and business partners in peace. Let them know me by themselves. That bad person wey una dey call me for internet, let them experience it themselves,” she added.

Nkechi emphasized that she has made efforts to change over the past two years and urged people to give her a chance.

“If not for the grace of God, I for no dey see food chop because I know how many deals I have lost. But God’s grace keeps me going. It is enough. At least I have shown traces of change,” she stressed.

In October 2024, Nkechi had also publicly apologized to the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) over past issues that led to her suspension in 2021.

At the Celebrities Entertainment Awards in Canada, she knelt before TAMPAN President Bolaji Amusan (Mr. Latin) and other members, pleading for forgiveness.

“I am deeply sorry for all I did. I am so sorry. I beg you from the bottom of my heart to please forgive me. I appreciate the industry. You all made me who I am today,” she said.

Following her plea, TAMPAN lifted her suspension, reinstating her into the association.

Reflecting on her personal growth, she admitted, “I was that Nkechi who didn’t listen to anybody, who didn’t take corrections. Now, in trying to change a lot about myself, I’ve decided to reconnect with the industry that made me who I am.”
