Senator Dino Melaye has said that he has written to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to grant an alleged request by Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for N30 billion.
Melaye, who is representing Kogi West at the National Assembly, said this on Saturday in a tweet.
The lawmaker alleged that the governor is trying to raise money to fund his re-election in November.
“Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State requesting 30 billion from CBN. I have written the CBN Governor not to release the money to the squandermania, akotileta Gov. He is trying to raise money for the November election,” Melaye wrote.
It is unclear, however, if the alleged money being requested for is the same as the second tranche of N50 billion bailout being expected from CBN.
The apex bank had in 2016 approved the release of the first tranche of N20 billion to enable Kogi government pay workers’salaries and emoluments.
