Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil, has likened teammate, Alex Iwobi, to Nigeria legend, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, who happens to be his uncle.
Iwobi’s dramatic rise to prominence at the Emirates has seen him earn plaudits from numerous soccer loving fans across the globe with the German midfield maestro the latest addition.
Despite only breaking into the Gunners first team towards the end of last season, the 20-year-old is gradually reposing the confidence placed in him by coach Arsene Wenger – notching three assists in just four games.
And Ozil, who was a fan of Iwobi’s uncle during his playing days, can’t help but admire the youngster whose playing style pose a striking resemblance with that of the former Super Eagles skipper.
However, the 27-year-old claims Iwobi is a little step ahead because he reminds him of former Dutch international, Edgar Davids.
“He reminds me of his uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha,” said Ozil. “He was a player I loved watching.
“Alex reminds me of a mixture of him and Edgar Davids. He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too.
“He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing for the whole season, he will enhance his game.
“The manager knows exactly how good he is and I wish him all the best.”
