Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi, once again highlighted England’s loss – which turned out to be Nigeria’s gain – with another Man of the Match display in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with West Ham on Saturday.
The former England youth international who shunned the Three Lions for the green and white jersey, continued his impressive run of form for Arsene Wenger’s side, with two assists at Upton Park.
With the array of stars in the Gunners rooster, Wenger decided to place his faith on the 19-year-old last month in the 3-1 loss to Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the Champions League.
Ever since, the youngster has never looked back – scoring against Everton and Watford and turning provider for Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez against London neighbours, West Ham.
Arsenal were two goals up after just 35 minutes – thanks to the nephew of former Eagles skipper, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.
Iwobi first setup Ozil – who beat the offside trap to fire into the bottom-left corner, through the legs of West Ham goalie, Adrian – before he lobbed a pass into the path of Sanchez, who had the freedom of the penalty area to slot home.
The Gunners however blew the two-goal lead to go 3-2 behind to the Hammers through a hat-trick from Andy Carroll.
Carroll struck twice in the final two minutes of the first half – before notching his third 12 minutes into the second half to stun the travelling fans.
Fortunately for the North London club, Laurent Koscielny was on hand to spare their blushes and grabbed a goal in the 70th minute.
But it’s a result which effectively ends Arsenal’s chances of winning the Barclays Premier League this season as they could finish the weekend 13 points behind league leaders Leicester City with just six games of the league campaign to go.
