Actress Iyabo Ojo has condemned musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, for publicly announcing his separation from actress Annie Idibia.
In an Instagram Story on Monday, Iyabo reminded couples to prioritise their children’s well-being when love fades.
She emphasised the importance of parental sacrifices and cautioned against abandoning loved ones during difficult times, even in the face of separation or divorce.
Iyabo also urged the public to consider empathy and the mental health of children involved in such situations.
She criticised the use of social media to address sensitive issues, stating that it often neglects the emotional toll on those directly affected.
While expressing her admiration for 2Baba, Iyabo noted her disappointment with the timing of his announcement, describing it as a lack of empathy toward Annie, who she said was already vulnerable.
She adviced both parties to focus on their children’s needs and offered encouragement to Annie, assuring her that the storm would eventually pass.
She wrote, “A heartfelt reminder to couples: when love fades, prioritize your children’s well-being. As parents, sacrifices are essential. Never abandon loved ones in their darkest moments, even if separation or divorce is inevitable.
“Let’s emphasise empathy and our children’s mental health. Sensitive issues shouldn’t be publicly aired; social media sometimes disregards the well-being of those involved.
“2Baba, I adore you, but this timing was off. Adding fuel to the fire and burning the mother of your kids, who’s already vulnerable, is so unempathetic. I’m disappointed.
“Annie, this storm will pass. Stay strong.”
Similarly, media personality Toke Makinwa criticised 2Baba’s decision to bring the issue to social media.
On Monday, Toke stated that while she wouldn’t advise anyone to remain in a situation that no longer serves them, the timing of the public announcement was poor.
She hinted at undisclosed events behind closed doors and affirmed her support for Annie, stressing that timing is everything and the truth would eventually come to light.
The backlash follows 2Baba’s announcement on Sunday, which has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some supporting him and others siding with Annie.
