Mercy Aigbe’s recent announcement that she was given a Range Rover HSE by a socialite popularly known as Mummy Glee seems to have brought out the green-eyed monster in her colleague Iyabo Ojo.
According to Mercy, the vehicle was a belated gift for her 43rd birthday which took place on January 1.
“So, few days ago @gleeoflife said to me that she would like to host me today for my belated birthday since I wasn’t in town during my birthday. Little did I know what she had in store for me,” she wrote in an Instagram post announcing the gift on Friday, January 5.
Naturally, many of her colleagues and fans were generous in congratulating her.
One person who thought differently was Iyabo Ojo who had announced back in September 2020 that a goddaughter gave her a Range Rover Evogue.
In what many see as a direct attack on Mercy, Iyabo Ojo wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday, “Nothing beats being yourself! there is nothing more toxic and stressful than trying to compete. Honestly, it’s getting old.”
Although the two women carry on as friends in public and their daughters Priscilla and Michelle are considered good friends, there is a constant competition to outdo each other.
Iyabo Ojo went full throttle in celebrating her newly acquired apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos last year, two years after Mercy bought hers in the Magodo area.
Mercy’s announcement of her new house in June 2018 was greeted with allegation that the building was purchased for her by then-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State.
The actress went on Instagram to address the rumour, saying this house you see in this picture was bought with my hard work and God’s grace.
It came as no surprise when Iyabo organised a flamboyant housewarming ceremony on September 6, 2020, inviting the likes of MC Oluomo, Yinka Quadri, Pasuma, Dayo Amusa, Brodda Shagi, Ayo Adesanya and Chioma Akpotha.
