Iyabo Ojo’s Labake Olododo makes history in UK with sold-out premiere

Filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has achieved a major milestone with her new movie Labake Olododo, selling out six screens on its opening night in the United Kingdom.

The 47-year-old shared the exciting news in an Instagram post on Saturday, celebrating the success.

She posted a promotional image that read, “The Warrior Lord — Labake Olododo. History made! Labake Olododo sold out 6 screens on opening night in the UK. A glorious moment for an indigenous film and the Nollywood industry at large.”

In her caption, Iyabo praised the project’s team, writing:
“The CHAMPION! LABAKE OLODODO has made history in the UK. Big ups to the entire team. Well done!”

Labake Olododo was officially released in cinemas on April 19, 2024.

The epic drama features an ensemble cast including Iyabo Ojo herself, Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Odunlade Adekola, Bimbo Ademoye and Muyiwa Ademola.

The film tells the story of Labake, a fearless and resilient woman warrior who rises against oppressive forces to defend her people.

Rooted deeply in Yoruba culture and tradition, Labake Olododo blends historical storytelling with themes of bravery, leadership and sacrifice.
