Iyaloja-general of Lagos Folasade Tinubu-Ojo has waded into the crisis between the Lagos State Butchers Association and the National Butchers Union of Nigeria.
Mrs Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, met with the union’s national president John Adun and other stakeholders in the national and state chapters.
The crisis had been marked by failed attempts of the Lagos State chapter led by the immediate past state chairman, Bamidele Kazeem, to withdraw from the national body.
Tinubu-Ojo urged them to maintain peace.
She said, “Since the state body pledged allegiance to the national body and was inaugurated by the same, the Kazeem-led group should embrace peace and work collaboratively with the national body.”
Tinubu-Ojo, while cautioning against greed and betrayal among leaders, emphasised the importance of resolving disputes swiftly to prevent escalation into violence or public unrest.
“Only in an atmosphere of peace can growth occur,” she said while instructing a union member to present relevant sections of the union’s constitution to reinforce the necessity for unity.
The Iyaloja-general also reiterated that welfare packages should be distributed fairly among all members and condemned the alleged practices of favouring only loyalists in the union.
Shola Adetele was appointed as the interim chairman of the state union by the national body.
