Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy, has set a new English Premier League record, following his strike in his team’s 1-1 draw at home with Manchester United.

The strike against United ensured that he became the first player to score in 11 straight Premier League games – smashing Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of 10 straight Premier League games for the Old Trafford outfit in 2003.

A remarkable feat for a player playing non-league football four seasons ago for tiny northern team, Fleetwood Town, the 28-year-old is now the hottest forward in the English game after scoring his 14th of the campaign.

And the record-breaking goal was typical Vardy. Racing in behind the defence and one-on-one with the goalkeeper, it was a position the pacy striker had found himself in plenty of times in his recent scoring spree – and the result wound up being the same.

He took a touch from Christian Fuchs’ perfectly delivered through-ball in the 24th, composed himself and shot powerfully past United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Bastian Schweinsteiger equalised for United in first half stoppage time, ensuring Leicester slipped from its surprising position at the league summit on goal difference.

The result means Manchester City go top after beating Southampton 3-1 in an earlier fixture.

Kevin De Bryune, Fabian Delph and Aleksandar Kolarov grabbed the goals for City in the 9th, 21st and 70th minutes respectively – while Shane Long scored a consolation for the Saints.

United are a point behind on 28 in third spot and Arsenal, with a game in hand are fourth on 26.
