Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo election held on October 10 Eyitayo Jegede has filed a petition at the tribunal challenging the victory of Rotimi Akeredolu.
Joined in the suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Deputy Governor-elect Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jegede’s lead counsel Ifedayo Adedipe said the election was marred by “irregularities, violence and intimidation of eligible voters”.
He also faulted Akeredolu’s emergence as the governorship candidate of the APC, saying the primary election that produced him as the candidate of the ruling party “fell short of standard”.
Jegede asked the tribunal to declare him the winner of the election.
INEC had declared the incumbent Akeredolu winner of the election, saying he polled a total of 292,830 votes to defeat his closest challenger Jegede who got 195,791 votes.
