Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has called for the arrest of the killers of David Rex who was shot dead at Jibowu area of Lagos on January 15.
According to a tale of the incident narrated on Twitter by Roy Mustang who identified himself as David’s cousin, the 22-year-old was attacked around 8pm while returning home.
Mr Saraki, however, said on Monday that it was heartbreaking that such incidents still occur despite laws passed during the eighth Senate he headed to prevent such tragedies.
“Learning that David Ntekim-Rex died despite existing laws that we passed during the 8th Senate to mitigate against such occurrences is truly heartbreaking. My heartfelt prayers are with his loved ones at this truly difficult time,” he tweeted.
“I hope that all those that are found to have been negligent in this case are quickly apprehended and tried under the ‘Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act (2017)’ to ensure that no family ever has to suffer such a loss again.”
David was reportedly pronounced dead at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
In 2018, as a computer engineering student at the University of Lagos, he emerged second in the annual Master the Mainframe competition, organised by AngelHack a global hackathon company and the IBM Z Academic Initiative.
