Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, is leading a stellar cast taking a stand against rape in a stage play titled Shattered at the Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Other actors are Bikiya Graham-Douglas, Tomi Odunsi, Goodness Emmanuel, Patrick Diabuah and Bola Haastrup.
Based on Bode Asiyanbi’s entry for a BBC story-writing competition, Shattered explores the culture of silence and society’s complacency on the issues of rape.
It also examines the series of events that happen after a rape has occurred while encouraging the community and victims of sexual assault to break the silence.
The award-winning play was first premiered at the British Council Lagos Theatre Festival in 2013 and 2015, provoking widespread advocacy to #BreakTheSilence on social media and other news platforms.
Directed by Kenneth Uphopho of the Lagos Theatre Festival and produced by Brenda Uphopho, the play will be presented by the Performing Arts Workshop and Studios (PAWStudios) in collaboration with Eko Hotel and Temple Production Foundation in celebration of the International Day for the Girl Child (IDGC) on October 22 and 23.
