Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Jimi Agbaje has raised alarm over the destruction of his campaign posters and other materials.
Mr Agbaje said in a message posted on Twitter that the vandals struck on Saturday morning as the governorship election campaign officially kicked off across the country.
“Early this morning our boards were vandalized and removed just as campaign commenced. Some of our deployment staff were also threatened with violence and warned to desist,” he wrote.

Agbaje, who is taking a third shot at the Lagos governorship seat, advised Lagosians to stand against tyranny, adding “this is no ordinary election.”
Fellow Lagosians we must unite. This is no ordinary election. This is a fight for freedom. A fight for Democracy. A fight for Lagos. We will not be silent and we will not be oppressed or suppressed into a corner. This time around, Democracy must win.

All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier wished Agbaje well.
“I may not be able to wish you victory, but I definitely wish you well,” Sanwo-Olu wrote in a tweet on Friday.
To my opponent, dear Jimi Agbaje, I may not be able to wish you victory, but I definitely wish you well.
God bless everyone and God bless our dear Lagos State. 3/3#ForAGreaterLagos

Agbaje responded in the same manner, adding “I extend my best wishes to you and all the other governorship candidates running in Lagos. This election is about the people of Lagos.”
To Mr. Sanwo-Olu, thank you for the well wishes. In the same manner, I extend my best wishes to you and all the other governorship candidates running in Lagos. This election is about the people of Lagos.
Let the campaigns begin.

Both men later attended an event organised by the Catholic Church of Divine Mercy, Lekki.
Agbaje will officially launch his campaign on Saturday at Ultima Studios, Lekki.
