Singer Joeboy who is popularly known for his hit song ‘Sip Alcohol’ has hit 100 million streams on Boomplay, joining music stars like Burna Boy Fireboy DML and Olamide.
This was disclosed in a statement sent to Qed.ng on Tuesday, January 18, 2021.
According to the report, Joeboy’s music enjoyed a total of 2,799 playlists inclusion and is currently being listened to in 163 countries worldwide on Boomplay.
The ‘Sip Alcohol’ single also trended on social media as Tik Tok users created videos to display funny acts inspired by the lyrics of the songs.
In February 2021, the 24-year-old released his debut album Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic, which had over 60 million streams while his most recent single Sip (Alcohol) became his most-streamed single with over 50 million streams as well as the third most streamed song on Boomplay in 2021.
Joeboy whose real name is Joesph Akinfenwa -Donus was signed into Mr Eazi’s record label Empawa Africa in2017.
He released his EP titled Love and Light in 2019 which comprises ‘Baby’, ‘Beginning’, ‘Don’t Call Me Back’, ‘All For You’ and ‘Blessings’.
With over 65 million songs from millions of artistes on Boomplay, another notable achievement has been that of singer Bella Shmurda, who became the most searched artiste on the platform while making his debut appearance in Boomplay Recap.
Boomplay’s yearly recap for Nigeria which was released on December 7, saw rapper Olamide and singer Omah Lay taking the number one and two spots respectively in the ‘Most Streamed Male’ artiste category, while Teni, Tope Alabi and Mercy Chinwo emerged as the top three in the female category.
Meanwhile, in October Boomplay signed a significant partnership with Billboard, in which the former’s streaming data was added to the data that informs the prestigious charts. This development unlocks numerous opportunities for more African artistes on the international stage while also showcasing the vast talent across the continent.
