Chelsea captain John Terry has been offered a new one-year contract by the Blues and is considering whether to accept it.
Terry, 35, is out of contract at the end of this season and in January said he would not be extending his stay.
“With it coming so late in the season, this is a big decision for John and his family and it is something that they are now considering,” a spokesman said.
Chelsea will be managed next season by Italy boss Antonio Conte.
He takes over from Guus Hiddink, who replaced Jose Mourinho following the Portuguese’s sacking in December.
“It’s good to have big players in a club who are big personalities,” said Hiddink, when asked about Terry at a news conference on Friday.
Chelsea play champions Leicester on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, but Terry is suspended after being sent off at Sunderland.
Terry will weigh Chelsea’s new offer against those he has received from elsewhere, including China. The Chinese Super League clubs Shanghai SIPG and Jiangsu Suning have reportedly expressed an interest.
Chelsea fans have been vocal in calling for the club to allow Terry to continue his career at the club. They made their feelings known during the 1-1 draw at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The defender has made 703 appearances since his debut in October 1998.
He has won four Premier League titles, five FA Cups and three League Cups, and has winner’s medals in the Champions League and Europa League, having captained the team more than 500 times.
