Nollywood actress Joke Silva has celebrated veteran actress, journalist, television presenter, and cosmetologist, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett on her 80th birthday.
The 59-year-old shared a picture of Ajai-Lycett in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
Joke described her as the ‘MATRIACH of the ACT’.
“TODAY we celebrate the MATRIACH of the ACT. Mama T as we fondly call her….one of the shoulders on which my generation of story tellers stand… and stand tall. MAAAMA is 80 years young today. I tap into your Grace mama T.
“Your strength, your resilience,your fierce intelligence….your faith in this country no matter how hard. @taiwoajailycett enjoy your day ma.🥂here is to many more years in good health sound mind and amazing abundance,” she wrote.
The Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) have also felicitated with its matron, board member, and mentor Ajai-Lycett.
A statement signed by the CORA programme officer Samuel Osaze on behalf of the programme directorate of the prime culture advocacy group said the actress, social activist and culture advocate Aunty TAL, as she is fondly called, meant more than just a board member to CORA. It stated that she is a vital force behind the dreams and passion that drive CORA and its various activities.
“Like all the other eminent members of the board, she is ever ready to listen and help to think through programme ideas, offering much-needed advices and critiques as desired,” said Mr Osaze.
Ajai-Lycett was born in Lagos, Nigeria and is of Awori heritage.
Her acting career started in December 1966 in Wole Soyinka’s The Lion and the Jewel, a two-act comedy directed by William Gaskill at the Royal Court Theatre in London. She did not plan to act but was in the rehearsal hall of the play when she was asked by Gaskill to be a participant.
