Former President Goodluck Jonathan; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, are to be quizzed by the three-man presidential committee investigating the N13 billion recovered from an apartment in Lagos, PREMIUM TIMES has reported.
The EFCC discovered the money in different denominations at an apartment on Osborne Road, Ikoyi last week.
Other personnel listed for invitation by the presidential committee include suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke, and his immediate predecessor, Olaniyi Oladeji.
The owner of the building where the cash was recovered and officials of anti-graft agency who led the operation would also be questioned by the panel, the online news medium quoted Presidency sources as saying.
A source, the medium reported, said Jonathan is expected to be questioned on allegations that he approved the operation for which the NIA obtained the recovered money.
Jonathan is believed to have approved the funds for secret service agency after its former director-general, Oladeji, informed him of the need for some “crucial and covert security projects”.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday set up an investigative panel to unveil the mysteries around the recovered cash and was also tasked to probe the suspended Secretary General of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
The panel, which has 14 days to submit its report, is chaired by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, while members include the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
The panel is also tasked with the responsibility to look into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against Lawal in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).
