The family of actor Junior Pope, including his wife Jennifer Awele, his children, parents and grandmother attended his funeral service in Enugu on Friday.
Junior Pope’s body arrived in his hometown, Ikpogwu Ukehe in Nsukka, Enugu State on Friday morning and was accompanied by his family.
The funeral mass was held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe and was also attended by some of his colleagues including Linc Edochie, Queen Wokoma and Ruby Ojiakor.
The burial arrangements will be wrapped up with a thanksgiving mass at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church on May 20.
The executive director of National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) Shaibu Husseini who sat behind Junior Pope’s family at the church service shared pictures from the funeral on his Instagram account.
Captioning the pictures, Mr Husseini wrote: “In Ukehe in Ogbo Etiti LGA of Enugu State for the burial of Nollywood’s beloved actor Junior Pope. There was a stop with his remains at the family house before the church service at St Peter’s Catholic Church Ukehe. Sat behind John Paul Odonwodo’s parents (father, mother, and grandmother) and his wife and little kids. This death is painful. Ozo emena biko.”
Junior Pope was confirmed dead on the night of April 10 after several attempts to resuscitate him failed. The 43-year-old alongside four others drowned in Anam River on their way back from the set of Another Side of Life, a movie produced by Adanma Luke.
Junior Pope got married to Jennifer Awele in November 2014 and they had three boys together.
In a video he made before his shocking death, Junior Pope revealed he was the only child of his mother.
