Musician Banky W has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the Eti-Osa federal constituency, Lagos at the House of Representatives.
The singer-turned-politician announced on Friday via Instagram that he would officially declare his interest in the seat on Saturday.
Born Olubankole Wellington, the 41-year-old had contested the seat in 2019 on the platform of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP). Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won the election.
Clearing misconceptions it was another April Fool’s Day joke, Banky said in another Instagram post, “I know this is April Fool’s Day, but this is not a joke.
“We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be. We must no longer be content to shout from the sidelines. We must get into the system to fix it.
“In 2019, we planted the seed. In 2023, by the grace of God, and with your support, we will win the seat. The time for just talking about our problems is over.”
The ‘Made for You’ singer called for support from the general public, saying “we need as many people as possible. We need you. We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be.”
