Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as chairman of parks management committee in Lagos State.
Akinsanya’s appointment was announced in a statement by the state’s commissioner for information and strategy Gbenga Omotoso on Thursday.
Immediate past commissioner of police in the state Hakeem Odumosu, who recently retired from service, will serve as government liaison officer on the 25-member committee.
According to Mr. Omotoso, the committee will oversee the affairs of all motor parks and garages in the state.
The statement added: “This is in fulfillment of the Government’s promise to ensure that events in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) are not allowed to threaten law and order.”
“The Government has, therefore, exercised its constitutional powers to ensure that no vacuum, which can disrupt the peace of our dear state, is allowed to exist in the parks. This is a duty we owe all Lagosians and visitors.”
Omotoso added that members of the committee were selected following consultations with stakeholders in the sector and they are to report to the Ministry of Transportation, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
The Lagos State Government on March 10 suspended NURTW operations in all parks and garages, following the suspension of Akinsanya as Lagos chairman of NURTW by the national executive of the union.
Akinsanya thereafter announced the withdrawal of the Lagos chapter from NURTW.
The national executive sacked Akinsanya on Wednesday and announced Seyi Bankole as the new head of NURTW in Lagos.
