The Presidency has debunked reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has resumed issuance of visas to Nigerians.
Several media outlets (QEDNG not included) on Tuesday reported that the UAE had lifted travel restrictions placed on Nigeria and some other countries in 2021.
The reports quoted a document purportedly issued by the Nigerian and UAE governments, saying the lifting of the restriction took effect from March 4.
Refuting the reports in a post on X, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media and strategy Bayo Onanuga said the document in circulation was not authorised by the two countries.
“UAE has not resumed visa issuance to Nigerians. The document in circulation is not authorized either by the Nigerian government or the UAE,” Mr Onanuga wrote.
