Fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate has been selected among the 437 Nigerians to receive national honours from President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
This was announced in a statement shared on Instagram on Saturday October 8.
The singer’s wife Emmanuella Ropo also announced the goodnews on her Instagram page where she also congratulated him.
She wrote: “A well deserved honour to the Doyen of Music, my darling husband. Congratulations Olasunkanmi. Still in the spirit of celebrating your 50 years on stage and God added this to your feathers.”
K1, through his management, confirmed the receipt of the conferment letter and expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government for being listed among recipients of the national honors.
K1 will be conferred with the rank of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).
The national honours list contain individuals from different works of life like entertainers, politicians, public officers, security officers, businessmen, monarchs, and religious leaders among others.
2Face Idibia, Shehu Othman, Teni the entertainer and Abubakar Maikano will get MON.
Other recipients include serving and former governors, serving and former presiding officers of the National Assembly, serving and former Chief Justices of Nigeria and serving and former members of the National Assembly.
K1 started his career as a member of the late Ayinde Barrister’s band between 1975 and 1978, after serving earlier as an ‘instrument packer’.
He went on to release his first album titled, Abode Mecca, in 1980. Four years later, he released Talazo which is still regarded as one of his most successful bodies of work.
The fuji musician, who hails from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, has won many local and international awards in the course of his career. He has also performed in many music festivals across the globe.
The 65-year-old recently celebrated his 50 years on stage as a performing musician.
Also known as KWAM1, the singer tied the knot with Emmanuella at a ceremony in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Thursday, November 18.
