Kaduna State Government has confirmed 16 new coronavirus cases in the state as against 17 announced on Thursday morning by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
In a statement on Thursday, Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Mohammed-Bolani, said the new cases are all almajiris who came from Kano.
“The high number of positive results from persons with travel history from outside the state confirm the Kaduna State Government’s fears about the danger of infection from neighbouring states and the role of interstate travel in facilitating the spread of Covid-19 across states,” the commissioner said.
The commissioner, however, noted that one of the 17 cases announced by the NCDC was a repeat test from an existing patient.
“Their attention has been drawn to it and it will be remedied,” she said.
Mohammed-Bolani urged Kaduna residents to observe personal hygiene, obey the lockdown order and report anyone who comes into the state from any high-risk state in the country.
The latest additions raise the number of active COVID-19 cases in the state from nine to 25.
