Kaffy knocks sports minister John Enoh over Nigeria’s lack of medals at Paris Olympics

Dance critic and choreographer Kaffy has voiced her displeasure with the minister of sports development John Enoh following his comments regarding the country’s performance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

On Sunday, Enoh took to X (formerly Twitter) to apologise to Nigerians for the poor showing, attributing the failure to a lack of preparation.

His statement sparked a fiery response from Kaffy on Instagram Live.

“Everyone is aware of how woeful—no, embarrassing—our outing was at the Olympics,” Kaffy began.

“How can our sports minister say we didn’t win any medals because we didn’t have enough time to prepare?”

Kaffy questioned the logic behind Enoh’s defence, pointing out that he has been in office for over a year, since August 2023.

“Even if you got into office yesterday, there are things you should have addressed immediately. Did athletes just start training the day you got into office? Were boxers and wrestlers inactive until then? If you’re not up to the task, don’t take it on,” she said.

The dancer also criticised the minister’s emphasis on attending meetings, questioning the tangible outcomes.

Kaffy claimed Nigeria’s sports sector is riddled with corruption.

She argued that the rare successes seen in Nigerian sports stem from the passion and dedication of individual athletes rather than support from the ministry.

Nigeria’s 19th appearance at the Olympics ended in a fiasco, with the country failing to win a single medal in Paris. The games were concluded on Sunday after 16 days of competition.

This is Nigeria’s worst Olympic performance since the 2012 London edition.

Notable medal prospects such as Tobi Amusan, Blessing Oborududu, Favour Ofili, Ese Brume, and Quadri Aruna fell short in their respective events.
