German goalkeeping legend, Oliver Kahn, has disclosed that he is yet to recover from the wonder goal he conceded against Nigeria’s Austin Jay-Jay Okocha in a Bundesliga fixture between Eintracht Frankfurt and Karlsruhe in 1993.
Okocha, a relatively unknown youngster at that time, proved the match winner after coming on as a second half substitute.
With the game tied at 1-1, the Nigerian scored a wonder goal – dribbling the entire back-line of Karlsruhe before slotting the ball past Kahn.
He went a step further to assist another to put the game beyond Karlsruhe.
Kahn went on to become one of the greatest goalkeepers in history – winning two UEFA Champions League titles with Bayern Munich as well captaining the Die Mannschaft.
However, the 48-year-old is yet to come to terms how a 20-year-old was able to display such outstanding skills.
He paid tribute to the Nigerian legend as he recalled the encounter exactly 23 years after on his Twitter page.
“Exactly 23 years is the sensational goal from Jay-Jay Okocha today ago – and I’m still dizzy…,” Kahn tweeted in German.
For all of you who don’t speak German: Yes, I am still dizzy – 23 years after the great goal from @IAmOkocha ????. https://t.co/VmLSDY5D7L
