The Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) has banned popular Hausa actress, Rahama Sadau, for playing the love interest of rapper, ClassiQ in the video for his song, ‘I Love You’.
Her expulsion was confirmed in statement signed by MOPPAN secretary, Salisu Mohammed, on Sunday.
MOPPAN, which is the umbrella body of motion picture practitioners in Northern Nigeria, said the decision to expel the actress from the Hausa indigenous film industry popularly known as Kannnywood “is as a result of her recent immoral appearance in a certain video song where she appeared in series of visuals (video and pictorial) hugging and cuddling the music artist ClassiQ in his newly released video.”
The 4:19mins video directed by Bash’em was released on September 26 and has been viewed on YouTube over 40,000 as at the time the actress was banned.
“The leadership of the industry has taken this decision for her violation of its codes of ethics known to all it practitioners,” the statement by MOPPAN continued.
“By this resolution, the leadership of the industry will no longer tolerate behaviours that are against conduct and ethics laid by the constitution governing the unified leadership of the industry.
“More so, the leadership hopes that this will serve as a deterrent to the actors and actresses to check their public behaviour as they are expected to be good ambassadors to the society they represent.
“Furthermore, a committee has been set to receive and deal with reactions and feed backs to this resolution in respect to the affected actress especially those producers that currently engage her in their projects.”
A popular face in Hausa movies and on social media -with 354k Instagram followers and 52.4k on Twitter – Rahama did not immediately respond to the ban.
This is not the first time the Ana Wata Ga Wata and Sabuwar Sangaya actress, who also runs a beauty salon in Kaduna, is getting into trouble with MOPPAN.
She was suspended in May 2015 for six months for accusing Adam Zango of demanding sex from her for a role in his movie Duniya Makaranta.
The 22-year-old, who lists Tiwa Savage and Genevieve Nnaji as role models, later apologised to the MTN ambassador, telling Premium Times in an interview that “I was too childish to have reacted that way.
“But immediately I said that, I wrote back to apologise to him; in fact he is my best friend now.”
Winner of Best Actress (Kannywood) at the City People Award 2014, Priyanka, as she is famously called studied business administration at Kaduna Polytechnic and joined Kannywood in 2013.
She played a few minor roles before gaining fame from her appearance in Gani ga Wane alongside Ali Nuhu.
