The Kano State Government has set up a six-member draft committee to implement the recommendation of the committee of inquiry over the breach of peace during the #EndBadGovernance protest.
Inaugurating the committee on Tuesday, Governor Abba Yusuf said it is tasked with thoroughly examining the report and making further recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, described the events as a painful experience.
According to him, the loss of lives and the destruction of properties valued in billions of naira had significantly setback on the state.
The governor reiterated government’s commitment to taking all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence, rebuild the economy, and alleviate the suffering caused by the crisis.
The governor, while highlighting the critical role of the committee, expressed confidence that its members’ expertise would ensure a timely and effective response.
The committee is chaired by Alhaji Dan Yahaya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services; Alhaji Aliyu Garo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, member; and Dr Hadi Bala, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, member.
Others are Salisu Marmara – a Ministry of Justice member; Malam Yahaya Umar, Director, Planning, Research, and Statistics, Kano State Pension Fund Trustee, secretary; and Jamilu Usman, Assistant Secretary II, REPA Directorate, SSG’s Office, to serve as Assistant Secretary.
Speaking on behalf of the members, Yahaya expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government and Gov Yusuf for entrusting them with such an important assignment.
He assured the government that the committee would work hard to justify the confidence placed in them.
