Nwankwo Kanu’s ex-West Brom teammate, Darren Moore, has been named April’s Premier League Manager of the Month – just hours before the club could be relegated.
Both played two seasons together at the Hawthorns between 2004 and 2006 before the Nigerian joined Portsmouth.
Moore has guided West Brom to three wins and two draws in his five games in charge since Alan Pardew left by mutual consent early last month.
It may prove too little too late, though, with any result other than a draw between Southampton and Swansea on Wednesday night – relegating the Baggies to the Championship.
Moore masterminded a four-match unbeaten run, including a 1-0 win at Manchester United and a 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
The Baggies also drew with Swansea City and recorded a 1-0 victory at Newcastle United.
“I am really delighted,” he said. “It’s been a wonderful joint-effort by everybody here.
“We’ve just bought some unity here and it’s helped the players put the performances together on the pitch.”
Moore was selected by a combination of votes from a panel of experts and from the public, beating Sam Allardyce, Pep Guardiola, Roy Hodgson and Jose Mourinho.
