Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has criticised UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch, urging African governments to prevent her from entering the continent.
Seun’s comments came after Badenoch distanced herself from Nigeria, describing the country as corrupt and highlighting the security challenges in the Islamic northern region plagued by Boko Haram insurgency.
She added that she shares no connection with the country despite her Nigerian roots.
The UK politician made the statement in response to accusations from Vice President Kashim Shettima and others who criticised her remarks, calling them derogatory.
Badenoch reportedly described her upbringing in Nigeria as overshadowed by fear, insecurity, and corruption.
During a recent Instagram live session, Seun accused Badenoch of disrespecting Africa and its ancestors.
He said, “Many have been praising this woman [Kemi Badenoch]; someone who has been insulting us, not only us but our ancestors. She said we should pay Europeans for colonialism.
“She’s saying we should pay them for killing millions of our ancestors; for all the atrocities that they committed in our lands.
“She’s someone who should be banned by African governments from stepping into Africa. Once she steps into Africa, she should be jailed.”
