Noo Saro-Wiwa, writer and daughter of the late environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, on Sunday paid tributes to her father on his 80th posthumous birthday.
She posted a photo of her father in his youthful days on Instagram.
“Today would’ve been my father’s 80th birthday,” she said. “I don’t know where or when this photo was taken, but I reckon he was around age 22 or 23, so he was probably teaching at the University of Lagos.”
November 10 will mark Saro-Wiwa’s 26th death anniversary.
The fearless activist was tried by a special military tribunal for allegedly masterminding the gruesome murder of Ogoni chiefs at a pro-government meeting.
He was hanged by the military dictatorship of General Sani Abacha. His execution provoked international outrage and resulted in Nigeria’s suspension from the Commonwealth for over three years.
