Kenneth Okonkwo slams Tinubu for acquiring presidential jet amid national hardship

Actor and former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for acquiring a private jet while Nigerians face economic hardship.

Kenneth took to Instagram on Monday to share a picture of Tinubu alongside images of jets. He accused the President of insensitivity for making such a purchase while citizens struggle with hunger, fuel shortages, and financial instability.

“People are dying of hunger. No food, no fuel, no finance, no electricity, and President Tinubu is buying a presidential jet. This is the height of insensitivity,” Okonkwo wrote.

The actor’s comments followed the official unveiling of the new jet on Monday.

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, released images of the aircraft, noting that it replaced a 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) that had been in service since President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Onanuga claimed that the new jet was acquired at a significantly reduced price.

The decision to replace the aging B737-700 (BBJ) reportedly came after an investigative hearing by a House of Representatives committee, which raised concerns about the plane’s safety and cost efficiency.
