Actor Kenneth Okonkwo has said that his colleagues who have thrown their weights behind All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu are merely actors who get paid for their appearances.
The Living in Bondage star said this in a recent interview on Channels Television.
When told that some of his colleagues were drumming support for the former governor of Lagos State, Kenneth Okonkwo said, “I’m not aware. Many of them are politicians, so they are entitled to visit anybody and collect their appearance fee. I am here talking as a politician not as a Nollywood practitioner.
“An actor is entitled to his appearance fee and if you call him as an actor, you ought to pay him. If I was invited as an actor, if I am not a politician, I would tell you what you would pay as appearance fee. And so let us forget them. When they say they are politicians, you see them here and you ask them questions.”
On July 11, the 53-year-old announced he resigned his membership of APC over the decision of the ruling party to field a Muslim-Muslim presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.
One month after, the actor joined Labour Party.
